There is something truly magical about Istanbul. Perched between Europe and Asia, it’s a city with a true clash of cultures.
One of the main highlights for visitors is the Hagia Sophia, in the historic heart of the city. Now a museum, it has been both a Greek Orthodox basilica and an imperial mosque. It is one of the few places in the world you can see Christian and Muslim iconography iconography side by side.
Sadly when I visited its spectacular 56m dome was being renovated. But I was pleased to snap this shot, which I feel captured some of the building’s original function as a place of worship.
